Hey, I'm 'Shuey'!

A little back story, growing up the Rodeo Chediski Fire forced my family and community to evacuate our homes. 10 years after that I graduated from college and became a Wildland Firefighter, fighting with crews in Arizona and Northern Idaho for several years. I painted my first landscape after what would be my last fire season…

When the military took my husband and I overseas in 2016 I missed working fire, however, I kept painting and started to use my art to give back to the wildland Firefighting community in a different way. We moved back to the USA in 2020 and I’m proud to say Backwoods Anchor Art Became a reality!

I realize fire has completely shaped who I am as an artist! Hence my half burnt tree. I paint both fire and landscapes, I’m not one or the other, I’m both. Our land coexists with fire, We coexist with fire. Can’t have one without the other. This need for resiliency and to find a balance.

I want to share and use my art to bring awareness and pride to wildland firefighting… this fire community. I want my art to inspire and evoke conversations!

Thanks for the support!
